poem thirteen: post-karate tanka

karate kids

I follow his gaze
through weather-worn curvatures
to urban gardens,
past twisted woven branches
adorned with berry baubles.

*I had the idea this morning to do an ekphrastic tanka based on a photo of my two youngest kiddos in their karate uniforms (karate-inspired tanka – it makes sense), but I’ve now decided to expand it into a short haiku-tanka-haiku (or maybe the haiku will strictly be senryu, I don’t know) sequence for a uni portfolio. So, this is the tanka draft anyway. And with that, Day 13 is done!
